We had a great time at the Avondale House Luncheon yesterday. The luncheon was hosted at the Junior League on Briar Oaks. We heard from some parents that have children with autism. It was great to hear their touching stories about how autism has impacted their lives. Overall, it was an awesome event. We are glad we can help support such a great cause. Shred Day Tomorrow

We want to let everyone know that we are having a shred day tomorrow, Wednesday, November 2nd. The shred day is being sponsored by Team Liberty Real Estate in Deer Park. We are having a community shred day this Saturday, October 29th, from 10:00-2:00. This was previously advertised from 8:00-12:00, but there has been a time change. We will be at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. The address is 15415 North Eldridge Parkway, Cypress, Texas 77429. Donations will be accepted on behalf of the church. We hope to see you there!

DOCUMENTS FOUND IN HARLINGEN DUMPSTER

June 27, 2011- Action 4 News found hundreds of documents containing potentially sensitive information in dumpsters near a recently closed local insurer. However, when contacted the previous management of the now-closed Statewide Insurance was reluctant to admit any wrongdoing.

"The documents were supposed to be disposed of probably more securely, however, at the end of the day, those documents are five years or older,” said Jay Barnes, Statewide’s former General Manager.

However, the documents were later found to contain at least one copy of a driver’s license, among other sensitive data.

Patient Medical Records Found in the Trash!

It is unbelievable that we are becoming more and more aware of the importance of protecting sensitive documents and disposing of them in the proper manner, but we are still finding such important documents in the trash! STOCKTON - Paper medical records belonging to approximately 1,200 patients who visit Sutter Gould Medical Foundation physicians in Stockton and Lodi were lost May 27. They ended up buried in a landfill.

The documents - all in one box - contained patient names, addresses, diagnostic test results, provider notes and correspondence, Social Security numbers, disability forms and insurance information, according to a statement released by Modesto-based Sutter Gould this week.

Spokesman Craig Baize said it does not appear that any of the records were compromised or misused. They simply went out with the trash after having been scanned by a vendor to create digital files for Sutter Gould's electronic health records system.

"Working with our vendor, every effort was made to locate the missing information," said Sandy Bellew, Sutter Gould's health privacy information officer. "When it was determined that the box and its contents were not going to be located in a timely manner, we began steps to notify our patients."

Sutter Gould apologized for the incident, and each patient should have received a letter containing a unique code and a toll-free number for enrolling in a credit-protection service at no expense for up to one year, the group said.

Sutter Gould's investigation included video surveillance tapes showing that the box was placed into a Dumpster.
